The Australian Anthropological Society represents the profession of anthropology in Australia. The goals of the Society are to promote the advancement of anthropology as a professional discipline grounded in the systematic pursuit of knowledge, to promote its responsible use in the service of humankind, and to promote professional training and practice in anthropology. The Society aims also to provide forums, through its Newsletter, online publications, its journal, and its annual conference, in which anthropologists can exchange information and engage in debates central to anthropological theory and practice. The Society recognises that anthropological work is broad in scope and includes academic research, teaching, consultancies and public commentary.
